ITA Airways has opened ticket sales for a new seasonal direct route between Rome Fiumicino and Santo Domingo. The service will begin on 30 November 2026 and marks the airline’s first destination in Central America. The addition forms part of the 2026–2027 winter schedule and reflects continued growth across ITA’s long-haul network, particularly in routes linking Europe with the Americas.

The airline already operates flights to the United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina, and the new service extends its reach further across the region. According to ITA Airways, expanding intercontinental routes remains a key part of its strategy. The introduction of Santo Domingo follows earlier adjustments to services in Asia, as the airline continues to build its presence on long-distance routes.

The route will initially run once a week on Mondays, before increasing to two weekly flights with the addition of Sundays starting 14 December. Services will continue until the end of March 2027. Flights will be operated by Airbus A330neo aircraft, offering three travel classes: Business, Premium Economy and Economy.

Route Overview

  • Launch date: 30 November 2026
  • One weekly flight (Monday), increasing to two
  • Additional Sunday service from mid-December
  • Operated by Airbus A330neo
  • Seasonal service until March 2027

The new route makes it easier to reach the Dominican Republic during the winter season, when demand for warm-weather destinations tends to increase. Santo Domingo offers access to Caribbean coastlines, historic districts and nearby resort areas. At the same time, Rome Fiumicino remains a key entry point for travel across Italy and other European destinations.

The new route is part of how airlines plan flights around the time of year. Flying direct saves time and avoids changing planes, which makes long journeys easier to manage. As the service runs only in winter, it matches the period when more people choose to travel to warmer destinations. It also gives a clearer option for planning trips during the colder months, when demand for sun-focused travel tends to increase.
