Munich Airport Adds New Airlines and More Arctic Flights

Munich Airport is welcoming two airlines this winter while increasing flights to Lapland, Southeast Asia and several long-haul destinations. Its timetable covers 182 destinations in 67 countries, including new links to Santiago de Compostela and Larnaca. The changes create more options for trips built around northern lights excursions, ski resorts or winter sunshine, although some routes operate only a few days each week.
Where Munich’s Winter Flights Are Changing
- Season: 25 October–27 March 2027.
- New routes: Fly2Galicia–Santiago de Compostela (twice weekly); Cyprus Airways–Larnaca (Thursdays/Sundays from 17 December, year-round).
- Arctic: Lufthansa–Tromsø (four weekly), Rovaniemi (two from 4 December), Kittilä (three from 1 February); Discover Airlines–Ivalo (weekly from January).
- Asia: Singapore Airlines–Singapore and Thai Airways–Bangkok (ten weekly each); Singapore extras Mon/Wed/Fri depart 20:30, arrive 15:15 next day; Lufthansa–Bangkok second daily 16 January–26 February.
- Long-haul: Lufthansa–Mexico City, Johannesburg, São Paulo (five weekly each).
The new routes to Spain and Cyprus offer direct connections from Munich, but their limited departures make return dates important. Additional services to Singapore and Bangkok give passengers more options for onward journeys across Asia. Those travelling through Munich from another airport should still check the length of their connection, especially if they are combining flights bought separately rather than travelling on one booking.
Rovaniemi offers access to Santa Claus Village, while Kittilä serves the nearby Levi ski resort. Tromsø is a popular base for northern lights trips, and Ivalo opens up more of northern Finnish Lapland. Santiago de Compostela has a UNESCO-listed old town and the cathedral associated with the Camino de Santiago. Larnaca offers a milder alternative, with beaches and archaeological sites close to the city.
Munich's winter additions offer different kinds of holidays, but extra departures do not guarantee easy connections or cheaper fares. A twice-weekly route can dictate the length of a stay, while journeys to Lapland resorts often need an onward transfer. Before booking a hotel, check which days your airline actually flies. If you're connecting through Munich on separate tickets, a missed connection could mean paying for another flight.
