Lufthansa Group Adds New US and Japan Flights for 2027

Lufthansa Group is expanding its flights to the US and Japan for summer 2027, with new nonstop routes to Columbus and Phoenix and the return of its Frankfurt–Nagoya service. The changes form part of the group's biggest network expansion since 2020, which also includes daily flights to Tokyo Narita and more connections across Europe. The new summer schedule is already on sale.
Key New Routes for Summer 2027
- Frankfurt–Columbus - Lufthansa: 5 May; Wednesday, Friday, Sunday.
- Munich–Phoenix - Lufthansa: 3 August; Tuesday, Friday, Sunday.
- Frankfurt–Edmonton - Discover Airlines: 1 June; Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
- Frankfurt–Tokyo Narita - Lufthansa: 28 March; daily; summer seasonal.
- Frankfurt–Nagoya - Lufthansa: 29 March; Monday, Wednesday, Saturday; seasonal.
- Zurich–Toulouse - SWISS: 25 June–23 August; twice weekly.
- Brussels–Cairo - Brussels Airlines: summer launch; five weekly.
The Columbus service marks central Ohio's first nonstop link to Europe. Lufthansa's new Narita flight does not replace its Frankfurt–Haneda service; both Tokyo airports will be served, giving travellers a choice of arrival points. The group is also increasing flights between Frankfurt and destinations including Cape Town and Montreal, although those are frequency increases rather than new routes. ITA Airways is also adding Rome–Verona and Rome–Caracas, although the UK advises against all but essential travel to Caracas.
Phoenix makes Arizona's Sonoran Desert easier to reach directly from Munich, with Papago Park and the Desert Botanical Garden close to the city. Edmonton provides another Canadian entry point for trips into Alberta, while Nagoya gives Japan visitors an alternative to starting their holiday in Tokyo. Toulouse is useful for shorter breaks in southern France; its service is limited to summer.
The dates deserve a closer look before booking. Phoenix's August launch falls during extreme desert heat, with average daytime highs around 40°C, so hiking plans need care. Narita Express takes as little as 53 minutes to Tokyo Station, while Haneda offers a rail connection to central Tokyo in around 20 minutes. If you book connecting flights on separate tickets, a delay on the first could leave you paying for a new ticket on the second.
