Basel Airport Adds Three Unexpected Winter Destinations

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is widening its winter network beyond familiar Mediterranean routes, with Poland's Poznań, Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Varna and Armenia's capital Yerevan among its newest links. One service has already begun, while the others launch later in the season, so passengers should not expect all three to be available immediately. Several existing European routes will also receive more frequent flights.
Which Cities Join EuroAirport's Winter Network?
- Poznań (POZ), Poland: Wizz Air; launched 21 September; normally Mondays and Fridays this winter, with extra Wednesday flights over Christmas.
- Varna (VAR), Bulgaria: Wizz Air; launches 27 October; Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Yerevan (EVN), Armenia: Wizz Air; launches 18 December; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Winter timetable: 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027; 89 nonstop destinations in 31 countries, served by 20 airlines.
Poznań is already operating, with Varna joining the network days after the winter switch and Yerevan following in December. Published timetables show fewer regular Poznań departures than the airport's original three-per-week announcement, so check individual dates on Wizz Air. Some flight listings use Mulhouse (MLH) rather than Basel (BSL); both codes refer to the same airport.
Poznań suits a winter city break around its historic market square and museums, with airport bus 159 reaching the centre in about 25 minutes. Varna offers Black Sea views, Roman baths and the Sea Garden outside beach season; bus 409 takes less than 20 minutes downtown. Yerevan opens up Armenia's capital and excursions to Garni and Geghard, although winter mountain conditions need checking.
EuroAirport's position near three borders makes these links useful beyond Basel itself. Airport bus 50 connects with Basel SBB station in roughly 20 minutes, while coaches link the terminal to Freiburg. Flights to Varna and Poznań operate only a few days a week, so check return dates before making other bookings. Factor in baggage fees and airport transfers, and checkEuroAirport's destinations page for the latest route information.
