The Jet2 plane made an emergency landing due to reports of smoke

Passengers aboard Jet2 flight LS1266, traveling from Tenerife to Birmingham, had a frightening experience. Their aircraft was compelled to make an emergency landing at Faro Airport in Portugal.

The reason for this was a report of smoke inside the aircraft. According to the Birmingham Mail, the crew promptly issued a red alert, and the Airbus A321neo, carrying 220 passengers, was diverted to the nearest airport.

Upon a successful landing, the passengers were evacuated, and airport ground staff conducted a thorough search of the aircraft. A total of 80 firefighters, police, and civil defense forces were involved in the operation.

An additional flight was arranged to transport the stranded travelers to Birmingham. The Boeing 757 arrived in Birmingham with a delay of over six hours, at approximately midnight.

The Jet2 aircraft remained in Faro for a comprehensive technical inspection. The following day, it returned to Birmingham without passengers.

A Jet2 spokesperson confirmed that the flight was diverted due to a minor malfunction and apologized for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
