A new adventure park worth £10 million has been proposed for central Portugal, adding another attraction to a region already known for outdoor activities. Local authorities in Castanheira de Pera want to create a large forest park with zip lines, an alpine coaster and climbing attractions, while linking it directly to Portugal's largest wave pool by cable car.

What the Park Could Include

  • Location: Castanheira de Pera, central Portugal
  • Project value: £10 million
  • Site size: 45 hectares
  • Planned attractions: A zipline, treetop adventure course, alpine coaster, rock climbing, free-jump trampolines and a children's go-kart circuit
  • Cable car: Around 1,000 metres, linking the town, the park and Praia das Rocas
  • Opening date: Not yet announced

The proposed cable car would link Castanheira de Pera with both the new park and Praia das Rocas, home to Portugal’s largest wave pool. The connection would make it possible to move between forest attractions and water activities without driving between separate sites. Praia das Rocas already offers canoeing, paddleboarding, paddle surfing and cable wakeboarding, while the park would add zip lines, climbing courses and an alpine coaster.

The project could also make Castanheira de Pera a more useful base for exploring central Portugal rather than a short stop on the way elsewhere. Serra da Lousã is nearby, with forest trails and schist villages such as Talasnal and Candal, while Coimbra is close enough for a day trip. That would give visitors a mix of outdoor activities, local villages and city sightseeing within the same regional stay.

The park is still only a proposal, and no opening date or construction timetable has been confirmed. Its main attraction would be the way the cable car, wave pool and forest activities are brought together in one place, rather than the park operating as a separate site. Until approvals and dates are announced, travellers should treat it as a project to follow rather than something that can already be planned into a trip.
