Starting July 1st, travelers exploring the scenic routes between Callander and Killin will benefit from a new bus service, enhancing their journey through this picturesque part of Scotland. This new service by Stirling Council replaces the previous one run by Kingshouse Travel and aims to make travel in the region more accessible and enjoyable.

The service will operate a 16-seat minibus, offering four return trips daily from Monday to Saturday along the A84. This route includes charming stops in Strathyre, Lochearnhead, and Lix Toll, providing travelers with easy access to some of the region's most beautiful landscapes. The service accepts National Entitlement and Young Scots cards, ensuring free travel for eligible over 60s and young people under 22.

The introduction of this service follows Kingshouse Travel's withdrawal on March 31st, after 28 years, due to driver recruitment challenges. Despite a lack of viable bids from other operators, Stirling Council decided to manage the service internally to maintain connectivity in the region.

For travelers, this new bus service means seamless travel through the heart of Scotland’s natural beauty, without the worry of navigating rural roads. Whether heading to local attractions, outdoor adventures, or simply enjoying the scenic views, this service offers a convenient and reliable transportation option. The annual cost for running this pilot is £88,100, slightly over the initial budget, but funded through a special allocation for transport initiatives.

Community engagement will play a key role in promoting this service among both residents and visitors. This initiative not only ensures continuity of travel for locals but also enhances the experience for tourists. Updates on the service's progress will be shared with the Environment, Transport, and Net Zero Committee in future meetings.
