Glasgow Prestwick Airport is putting Faro back in focus for summer 2026 as Ryanair operates more flights on the route. The Portuguese city is often treated as the arrival point for Algarve resorts, but the airport’s latest destination feature presents it as a holiday base in its own right, combining beaches, historic streets, nature trips and easy access to the wider region.

Faro’s compact centre makes it possible to move quickly between the marina, cafés and the walled Old Town. Inside the Muralhas de Faro, visitors find cobbled lanes, traditional buildings, independent shops and quiet squares. Praia de Faro adds a long stretch of sand close to the city, giving short-break visitors a straightforward way to combine sightseeing with time beside the Atlantic.

The city also sits beside Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected lagoon of waterways, islands and wildlife habitats that can be explored by boat, kayak or on foot. Golf courses, family attractions and seafood restaurants widen the choice beyond the beach. This gives visitors several different days out while keeping Faro as one convenient base without changing hotels during a longer holiday.

The extra flights make Faro easier to use for either a city break or a longer Algarve holiday. Travellers can spend time in the historic centre, reach Praia de Faro or join trips through Ria Formosa before continuing along the coast. The route is especially useful for people in western Scotland who might otherwise need to leave from another airport or add a connection.
