Liverpool’s Beatles Story is preparing to leave its waterfront home for a museum more than four times its current size. Planned for 2028, the attraction would take over the former St Johns Market opposite Lime Street station, while nearby St Johns Beacon becomes a Yellow Submarine-inspired viewpoint. The move would bring a much bigger Beatles experience into the city centre, provided planning permission is granted.

Apple Corps, the Beatles’ company, will take over the existing museum in 2027 ahead of the proposed move. Across 100,000 sq ft, the new exhibition is planned to feature original memorabilia, interactive displays and recreations of the Cavern, Abbey Road and the band’s Savile Row rooftop. Some sets and props will come from Sam Mendes’ four Beatles films, scheduled for release in April 2028.

What’s Planned for the New Beatles Museum?

  • Opening: Planned for 2028, pending planning approval; exact date unknown.
  • Site: Former St Johns Market, opposite Lime Street station.
  • Admission: New prices, hours and booking dates unannounced.
  • Experience: Multi-hour museum; separate Yellow Submarine viewpoint, with combined tickets planned.
  • Until then: Royal Albert Dock museum, £20 adult; usually opens at 9am.
  • Booking: Current tickets at The Beatles Story; 2028 alerts via The Beatles.

The station-side location would make a museum visit easier to combine with Mathew Street, where the Cavern Club hosts live music and the Liverpool Beatles Museum displays memorabilia. Fans could then head to the waterfront for the free Beatles statue at Pier Head, or travel further to Penny Lane and Strawberry Field. The planned beacon viewpoint would add a panoramic stop to the same trip.

Visitors planning a Liverpool break now can still explore the original museum at Royal Albert Dock, which has no confirmed closing date. For 2028, waiting for an opening date and ticket prices is wiser than arranging a trip around the announcement alone. If approved, the move will put a large Beatles exhibition beside the city's main railway station, making day visits much easier to organise.
