Spanish airline Iberia has launched an AI-based travel assistant named Iberia GPT, now available through OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform. The announcement was made at South Summit 2025, a European conference centered on innovation and technology. Iberia GPT is the first airline travel planning tool to be listed in the GPT Store, OpenAI’s curated collection of custom GPTs.

The assistant is here to help travelers kick off their plans by suggesting options that match their interests, budget, and general travel dates. With the flexible search feature, travelers can check flights departing up to five days around their chosen dates. The tool also enables planning trips with multiple stops and offers suggestions focused on particular regions or travel themes.

Iberia GPT operates through an interactive conversational interface. Users begin by providing general preferences, and the assistant offers options that can be adjusted in real time as inputs change. For users who prefer to keep their travel plans open while considering a variety of destinations and timelines, the assistant offers a convenient way to gather ideas before making any decisions.

The assistant does not handle ticket purchases or transactions. Rather than booking for you, it helps you get your trip ideas straight before you go ahead and book elsewhere. Its knack for fine-tuning suggestions based on changing preferences is ideal for travelers with limited budgets or those wanting to avoid peak season crowds.

With Iberia GPT, we take another step toward making it easier for customers to plan their trips from the earliest stages of inspiration and discovery.
Nacho Tovar, Director of Innovation at Iberia

The introduction of Iberia GPT is part of a broader trend in the travel industry toward using artificial intelligence not only to improve operational processes but also to enhance customer-facing planning tools. As AI assistants become more prevalent, they may influence how travelers research and prepare trips, providing new approaches to exploring routes and destinations.
