United Airlines has launched a daily seasonal nonstop service between Glasgow and Newark/New York, restoring direct scheduled flights between Glasgow and the United States for the first time since 2019. The route began on 9 May 2026 and will run until 24 October, reconnecting Scotland’s west coast with one of United’s main U.S. hubs after a long gap.

United says it is the only U.S. airline offering a nonstop service between Glasgow and the United States. The airline previously served the city until October 2019, and its return gives Scottish passengers a direct route to New York, as well as onward connections through Newark to more than 220 destinations across the Americas.

Key Route Details

The Glasgow–Newark/New York service includes:

  • daily seasonal flights until 24 October 2026
  • Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft
  • 166 seats on board
  • 16 United Premium Plus seats
  • 54 Economy Plus seats
  • 96 economy seats
  • access to United’s wider Newark hub network

Glasgow Airport and city officials said the route matters for tourism, business and exports. AGS Airports CEO Kam Jandu said the service had previously carried strong passenger numbers, as well as Scottish goods including whisky and seafood. U.S. visitors also gain easier access to Glasgow’s museums, architecture, historic pubs, parks and gardens, plus wider trips into the Highlands.

The route gives Scotland a cleaner transatlantic option without requiring passengers to start in Edinburgh, London or another connecting airport. It also makes Glasgow easier for American visitors planning golf, whisky, city breaks or nature-led trips. The service is seasonal, so timing matters, but for summer 2026 it puts a useful direct link back on the map.
