Finnair is preparing for summer 2026 by adding new routes from both Stockholm Arlanda and Umeå Airport. The airline will introduce daily flights to Stavanger in western Norway, expanding the options already available at Stockholm Arlanda. At the same time, Umeå will gain new links with Vasa and Helsinki, strengthening the air connection between northern Sweden and the wider Nordic region.

The schedule begins on 29 March 2026 with daily services on both routes:

  • Stockholm Arlanda – Stavanger: daily flight
  • Umeå – Vasa – Helsinki: daily flight

Finnair says the new flights reflect stable interest in practical, direct routes within the Nordic region. Swedavia, which operates both Stockholm Arlanda and Umeå airports, adds that these services will help keep Sweden well-connected and make regional travel smoother for both work and everyday trips.

“Finnair’s investment in additional direct routes from both Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Umeå Airport is a clear sign of the continued high demand for international travel to and from Sweden. The new routes will play an important role in further connecting the Nordic region to Sweden."
Elizabeth Axtelius, Director Aviation Business at Swedavia.

Stavanger offers Stockholm passengers a clear and simple route into one of Norway’s coastal cities. It’s a compact place with a busy harbour, easy access to fjords, and a strong maritime character. From Umeå, the new flights make trips across the Gulf of Bothnia much easier. Vasa brings a mix of local culture, small galleries, and a quiet seaside atmosphere. Helsinki, meanwhile, is an easy place for onward flights and also a good city to spend extra time in. Visitors can wander between its cafés, museums and calm waterfront spots, making a longer stop worthwhile. Together, these new links help people travel directly without passing through bigger airports.

The wider Nordic region becomes more reachable for holidaymakers and business travellers alike. Stavanger’s coastal surroundings appeal to those interested in outdoor trips and scenic routes, while Vasa’s museums, archipelago views, and design heritage add variety for weekend plans. Helsinki’s food scene, historic islands, and festivals also become simpler to reach with the new connection. These additions create practical alternatives for travellers planning summer breaks or cross-border visits.

Finnair’s decision to expand its presence at both airports shows how Sweden’s role in Nordic travel continues to grow. The new routes take some of the hassle out of everyday travel and give people a wider pick of places within easy reach. As demand remains strong and airports work towards cleaner operations, these services highlight how regional links can stay flexible, reliable, and useful for people moving around Scandinavia.
