Fairmont Brings a Cheshire Estate Back
Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere will open for stays from 10 July 2026, bringing the Fairmont brand to Northwest England for the first time. Reservations are now live for the Cheshire countryside estate, which joins The Savoy, Fairmont Windsor Park and Fairmont St Andrews in the brand’s UK portfolio. The hotel sits within 157 acres overlooking The Mere Lake.
What guests can book
The estate will reopen with several resort-style facilities:
- 116 bedrooms, including 23 suites
- Gordon Ramsay at The Mere
- afternoon tea at The Orangery
- Fairmont Spa and Spa Bar
- 18-hole championship golf course
- Grand Ballroom for up to 1,000 guests
The Mere has a long history, with references stretching back to the Domesday Book of 1086. The estate later became a leisure property and private club before returning as a hotel under the Fairmont name. Select Group acquired the property for £35 million and has spent a further £90 million on its transformation.
The opening gives visitors another countryside stay within reach of Manchester, Chester and the wider Cheshire area. Guests can use the hotel for spa breaks, golf weekends, restaurant-led trips or larger celebrations without heading into a city-centre setting. Its location also makes it practical for combining a rural stay with days out in Chester, Tatton Park or nearby villages.
The Mere has been part of Cheshire’s hospitality scene for years, but the July opening changes how it will be used. It is moving back into hotel life with 116 rooms, a major renovation and Fairmont’s name above the door. That should make it more visible to guests looking beyond the usual country-house stays.
