Scandic and property owner Axfast plan to open a 135-room Scandic Go hotel beneath Drottninggatan in central Stockholm in 2027. Work is due to begin this year, with retail and warehouse space being partly converted into a mixed-use building with hotel rooms, shops and offices. Room rates have not yet been announced.

Scandic Go hotel will sit under one of Stockholm’s busiest shopping streets, close to Hötorget, the central station and the city’s main bus terminal. It is Scandic’s first underground hotel and will be aimed at cost-conscious leisure and business travellers who want a central address, digital check-in and a quieter room rather than a luxury stay.

Inside the Windowless Hotel

The planned hotel will include:

  • 135 windowless rooms over four floors
  • Check-in one floor below ground or online
  • Shared spaces and staff rooms with windows
  • A Scandic Go economy concept
  • Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification for operations
  • BREEAM In-Use Excellent certification for the building

The official hotel page has not yet been launched.

The location will make central Stockholm easier to use for short visits, shopping weekends and early transport links. Guests will be near Drottninggatan shops, Hötorget, Sergels torg, Stockholm Central Station and Cityterminalen. From there, Gamla stan, the Royal Palace, Djurgården museums and waterfront walks can be reached by metro, bus or on foot.

The main difference is the format: a central hotel built mostly underground, with all rooms designed without windows. Scandic says lighting, materials and acoustics will be used to make the rooms calm and dark. That may suit guests who sleep better without daylight, but anyone who wants views, long lounge time or a classic hotel feel should check the room type carefully.
