SAS Returns to Riga With Daily Copenhagen Flights

Scandinavian Airlines will resume operations at Riga International Airport on 8 March 2026, launching three daily flights between Riga and Copenhagen. The move increases both frequency and seat capacity on one of the Baltic region’s key routes. The renewed service reconnects Latvia’s capital with Copenhagen Airport, a major Northern European aviation hub, offering improved access to long-haul flights operated by SAS and partner airlines.
The Copenhagen route is already one of Riga Airport’s busiest. Adding more flights will increase capacity and give passengers more departures throughout the day. This makes trips between the two capitals easier to organise and improves transfer options through Copenhagen. The development also reinforces Riga Airport’s role as a regional gateway linking the Baltic states with international routes.
Riga Airport Board Chair Laila Odiņa said the added flights will strengthen travel options for both business and leisure trips. Copenhagen Airport serves as one of the main transit hubs in Northern Europe, and greater capacity on the route broadens the range of onward connections. Increased competition on the route may also support more flexible schedules and more varied fare options across the Riga–Copenhagen corridor.
Key long-haul connections through Copenhagen
With three daily services, the route also improves access to transatlantic travel via Denmark’s capital. From Copenhagen Airport, passengers can continue with one transfer to several major cities in North America, including:
- New York
- Washington
- Boston
- Other North American hubs served by SAS
This makes Copenhagen an important stepping stone for journeys beyond Europe.
The return of SAS to Riga marks a notable moment for the airport’s route network. The airline first began regular flights to Riga in 1990 but suspended them in 2008. The 2026 summer schedule brings the connection back after a long pause. The restored route reconnects Latvia with a key Nordic hub and gives passengers another reliable path to reach Europe and intercontinental destinations.
