SkyAlps will start a new direct route between Salzburg and Rome Fiumicino in June 2026, adding a long-requested destination to the airport’s network. Flights will run twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with the first service scheduled for 3 June. Tickets are already available, with one-way fares starting at €99, giving early access to summer travel plans.

The route is timed for the start of the summer season and is aimed at both leisure and business travel. Rome has remained a popular destination for passengers flying from Salzburg, and the new nonstop service removes the need for connections. Airport officials see the route as a step that supports both outbound trips and incoming visitors from Italy.

Flight days are set to suit short breaks, with departures that make it possible to spend a few days in the city or extend the stay. The launch is set around summer and autumn holiday periods, when more people usually travel. The airline operates a fleet of Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, each with 76 seats, focusing on regional routes and direct services.

  • Tuesdays and Saturdays, first flight on 3 June
  • One-way fares from €99

The connection allows direct travel to central Italy without a transfer. Short stays in Rome become more straightforward, with access to historic sites, local food and nearby areas. Travellers from Italy can now fly direct to Salzburg. In the city, they can visit the historic centre, including the Old Town and Hohensalzburg Fortress, or take a short trip to nearby lakes such as Wolfgangsee. Day trips into the Alps are also possible, with easy access to hiking areas and mountain views during the summer.

The route offers a nonstop option, which is useful for shorter trips. Flights run on set days, making it easier to plan ahead. If enough people use the service, the airline may extend it and keep it running in the coming seasons. The connection also adds another direct link within Europe, where regional airports continue to expand their route networks.
