New Hotel Near Albufeira Opens Gateway to Algarve’s Natural and Cultural Gems
Algarve, Portugal 27 May 2025 The hospitality group Kimpton, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, has opened a new resort on São Rafael Beach in southern Portugal. Named Kimpton Atlântico Algarve, the hotel includes 149 rooms and suites designed using natural materials commonly found in the region. Its location just outside Albufeira positions it between the Atlantic coastline and the town’s historical areas, offering visitors a starting point for wider exploration.
The resort is equipped with wellness facilities covering over 1800 square metres, including a heated indoor pool, hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, Turkish bath and treatment rooms. A fitness centre is also available. Guests travelling alone, in groups or with families can access a range of amenities throughout the property. The hotel also accommodates pets without extra fees. These services are designed to support longer or more varied travel itineraries in the area.
Several natural attractions are located within short driving distance of the hotel. Benagil Cave, accessible only from the sea, is known for its circular ceiling opening and can be visited by kayak or boat. Praia da Marinha, located nearby, is recognised for its limestone cliffs and clear waters. In walking distance from the hotel is Salgados Lagoon, a wetland area with nature trails used frequently for seasonal birdwatching and low-impact outdoor recreation.
Silves, located away from the beach crowds, is home to a striking medieval castle and a Gothic cathedral that highlight the region’s historical depth. Nearby walking trails between Praia da Coelha and Praia dos Arrifes connect smaller beaches and provide open views of the shoreline. Families staying in the area can also consider visiting Zoomarine, a marine life park that includes interactive exhibits and aquatic shows.
With its location and infrastructure, the new resort contributes to expanding travel options in the Algarve.
