Chelsea’s Premier League matches against Liverpool on 4 October and Sunderland on 25 October will take place during major planned engineering works on the London Underground. These works are expected to affect several key lines near Stamford Bridge, including Fulham Broadway Station and surrounding stops. Fans should be aware that regular routes may be unavailable or delayed, and congestion is likely on all nearby transport options. Adequate preparation and checking schedules in advance is advised to avoid disruptions.

Fulham Broadway Station will remain closed all day on both matchdays, and several key Underground lines will be affected:

  • District Line – west of Embankment, including the Edgware Road branch to Wimbledon, will not operate.
  • Circle Line – suspended between Edgware Road and Tower Hill via Victoria for the Liverpool game.
  • Circle Line – suspended between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria for the Sunderland match.
  • Mildmay Line – no service between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction on Sunderland matchday, affecting multiple stations along the route.

Alternative stations on the Piccadilly Line, including Earl’s Court, Hammersmith, and South Kensington, remain available for travel. However, exiting Earl’s Court may take up to 60 minutes after the matches due to expected crowding. Supporters may want to walk from Hammersmith or South Kensington to Stamford Bridge as another option. Buses will operate along main routes to help reduce disruption, though trips could still take longer than usual due to heavy traffic and large crowds near the stadium.

People traveling to Stamford Bridge should be ready for busy stations and longer walks to reach the stadium, allowing extra time for a smooth journey. Planning ahead by using public transport apps, checking maps, or identifying alternative routes can help avoid delays. By leaving earlier than usual and avoiding the busiest stations, fans will be able to get to the stadium on time. It is wise to prepare for possible delays and check for updates on transport services frequently to ensure that your journey to the match goes as smoothly as possible, despite temporary closures.

These scheduled closures highlight the importance of planning travel carefully for Chelsea home games in October. Fans are advised to give themselves extra travel time, explore different routes, and stay adaptable in case of delays. Careful preparation can minimize disruptions and make traveling to matches more predictable. These disruptions demonstrate that public transport users need to adapt to temporary changes, and staying informed is essential for safely and efficiently traveling to and from Stamford Bridge during these events.
