Public transport across Lancashire and Greater Manchester will operate on a reduced timetable throughout the 2025–2026 festive period, affecting how people move between towns during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year. Operators have published updated schedules showing fewer services, earlier evening finishes and full shutdowns on key dates. These changes mean that both residents and visitors will need to plan their movements carefully, particularly around Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year travel.

The timetable also includes specific daily adjustments and changes to evening travel across several dates. Key operating patterns are as follows:

  • 22–23 December: Saturday service; Hotline after 8pm via St James Street.
  • 24 December: Saturday service with early finishes.
  • 25 December: No buses.
  • 26 December: Limited Boxing Day services.
  • 27–31 December: Saturday or Sunday service; early finish on 31st.
  • 1 January: No buses.
  • 2 January: Normal timetable.

These changes reshape service availability across the region.

Regular travel habits may not match the adjusted holiday schedule, especially on evenings and key festive dates when services differ from the norm. People heading to local events or visiting relatives will need to check the revised timetable instead of assuming the same pattern as in past years. The complete suspension of services on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day increases the need for early preparations, especially for those who depend entirely on public transport for essential or time-sensitive journeys across these areas.

Boxing Day will remain one of the few dates during this period when a small selection of higher-demand routes will continue operating, although at lower frequency than normal. Boxing Day buses will keep key towns linked and allow both essential and leisure trips, though the number of journeys will be noticeably lower than usual. Concessionary passes will still follow standard rules, while reduced customer service hours may lead to slower responses, encouraging travellers to seek information in advance rather than relying on last-minute assistance during the holiday season.

The altered timetable highlights how seasonal planning can influence movement patterns and expectations across the region. With scaled-back services, early finishes and complete shutdowns on key dates, travellers will need to adapt their schedules to ensure uninterrupted mobility. The changes emphasise the importance of checking route updates, allowing additional time for connections and considering backup options. Understanding these adjustments in advance may help reduce disruptions and support smoother travel throughout the busy festive period.
