Fiumicino Adds New Premium Lounge Option

Rome Fiumicino Airport has gained a new lounge aimed at travellers seeking quiet space before a flight. Plaza Premium Group has opened its first Plaza Premium First lounge in Europe in Terminal 1 Departures. The 700m² facility seats up to 115 guests and is open to all passengers regardless of airline or cabin class. Access is paid, similar to other independent lounges at major hubs.
The lounge has spaces to rest or get things done during layovers or early arrivals. There is dining with a menu, a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, small rooms for naps or video calls, quiet seating areas, and a nursery for families. The interior uses Italian-style touches, soft lighting and artwork linked to Rome, instead of the usual airport look.
One notable feature is an outdoor patio area, which is unusual for European airport lounges and may appeal to travellers with long waits between flights. Guests also have access to showers, luggage storage, power points, wireless charging and digital elements such as VR headsets showing cultural content linked to the city. The lounge is open throughout the day, aligning with departures across short-haul and long-haul schedules.
Rome Fiumicino’s network gives convenient links to museums, archaeological sites, music events and coastal towns with fast transfers into the city. Express rail reaches Termini Station in around 30 minutes, placing travellers close to landmarks such as the Roman Forum, Trastevere, the Vatican Museums, Cinecittà Studios and seaside spots like Ostia. For connecting passengers, the lounge offers a calmer wait before continuing to hubs across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
For mappers planning Europe flights, this addition makes Fiumicino more attractive as a transfer point or start location. Not every airport offers paid lounges with à la carte dining and outdoor areas open to all ticket types, so it may shift how people plan layovers. Instead of waiting at the gate, some may choose a longer connection in Rome to rest, eat properly and enter the city refreshed rather than rushed.
