Festive Travel in West London Set for Disruption Amid Bus Walkouts

Industrial unrest in West London is set to reshape travel patterns in mid and late December as more than 350 London Transit employees prepare to stage walkouts. The strikes, scheduled for 12, 15, 22, 23 and 24 December, coincide with one of the busiest travel periods of the year, when seasonal events increase pressure on public transport. As the dispute is focused on the Westbourne Park depot, service stability on several important routes is expected to be weaker than usual.

The disruption is expected to affect the following routes that often serve residential areas, shopping districts and major interchange points:

  • Route 13
  • Route 23
  • Route 31
  • Route N31
  • Route 218
  • Route 295
  • Route 452

These services may operate with gaps, reduced frequency or cancellations as a consequence of the unresolved pay dispute, especially on days with high commuter and leisure traffic.

"This is appalling behaviour from a company that makes millions from London bus passengers. It shows an utter disregard for its workers and the hard work they do day in, day out. Our members won't stand for such behaviour and Unite will back them all the way in this dispute with a company that has a history of anti-worker behaviour."
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham

The main issue for travellers is that transport links may become uneven precisely at a time when travel demand is rising. Visitors relying on buses to reach hotels, markets or cultural venues may find familiar services operating at limited capacity, requiring additional time for each stage of their journey. This situation is likely to create extra difficulties for travellers arriving via major rail stations or those trying to keep to tightly planned day itineraries in West London.

This means travellers may need to give their journeys a bit more thought and stay open to alternative ways of moving around the city. Rail services and the Underground are expected to offer steadier operations, although they are also likely to be busier than usual. Walking short distances or combining different forms of transport could help avoid delays. Keeping an eye on service updates throughout the day will also make trips smoother.

The planned strike action shows how easily travel arrangements can be affected during the busy festive season. For travellers, the safest approach is to stay flexible, check routes in advance and allow extra time for every journey. Short service disruptions can still cause delays to winter travel plans, which means visitors to West London on the affected dates should be prepared for changes.
