easyJet Brings Edinburgh Flights to London Southend
easyJet has launched direct flights between London Southend and Edinburgh, giving people in Essex and east London another way to reach Scotland’s capital. The link works both ways, offering Edinburgh travellers an alternative airport for visiting the South East. Southend may mean a shorter airport journey for those living nearby, although the limited timetable leaves less room for spontaneous trips.

Southend Airport station is around 100 steps from the terminal, with trains taking roughly 43 minutes to Stratford and 52 to Liverpool Street. Edinburgh Airport’s tram reaches the city centre in about 30 minutes and its last departure is at 22:52; the Airlink 100 bus runs all night. easyJet holidays also sells flight-and-hotel packages, although local transport is not included in the advertised flight fare.
A Thursday departure gives Edinburgh-bound passengers Friday and Saturday to explore before returning on Sunday evening. Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and the National Museum of Scotland are close enough to combine on a city break, although opening hours and ticketing differ. Scottish visitors can use the return route for Southend’s seafront and pier or for trips into east London via Stratford.
Passengers arriving at Southend on Sunday evenings should check their onward train before booking: the flight normally lands at 22:20, and the last service to Liverpool Street is listed close to midnight. A delay could make that connection tight. The route is best judged on total cost, not the airfare alone: easyJet’s standard allowance is one 45 × 36 × 20cm under-seat bag.
