Vienna Airport has officially opened its new VIP Terminal Art Lounge, bringing together travel and culture in a unique way. The project launched with a special evening attended by executives Julian Jäger and Günther Ofner, alongside VIP Terminal directors Alexandra Schellhorn and Christoph Schmidt. The initiative, developed with cultural manager Gerhard Krispl and gallerist Elisabeth Melichar, will present contemporary Austrian art to an international audience in semi-annual exhibitions.

The first exhibition features works by leading artists such as Uli Aigner, Negra Bernhard, Hans Kupelwieser, Ferdinand Melichar, Alois Mosbacher, Markus Redl, Hubert Schmalix, Walter Vopava, Manfred Wakolbinger, and Elisabeth Plank. Now, the lounges, foyers and connecting spaces gleam with sculptures, paintings and installations, transforming one of the airport’s most exclusive corners into an unlikely gallery. The Art Lounge shows that Vienna wants to be more than just a stop on the journey; it invites every traveller to experience how naturally art and travel go hand in hand.

This means the VIP Terminal is no longer only about premium service, fast-track security, and a private place to wait. It's also about slowing down momentarily, taking in Austrian creativity's colours and shapes before boarding. Vienna is already renowned for its opera houses, grand museums, and historic beauty - now the Art Lounge adds an appropriate hello or goodbye to that experience, making every visit richer.

It is also the closest airport to many of the key attractions. A short drive from the terminal, the city's historic centre - home to the grand Albertina, Belvedere Palace, and many galleries, can easily be reached. Austrian art is available for today’s business and leisure travellers from the moment they step off their flight, making for the ideal beginning to their Austrian adventure.

Now, for international guests, the opening of the Art Lounge makes Vienna Airport a transportation hub and cultural ambassador. It shows how airports can become meaningful spaces that go beyond functionality and add inspiration to travel. For many visitors, the journey through Austria no longer begins with queues and departure lounges, but with colours, shapes and ideas from contemporary art.
