From 14 June to 6 September 2026, Etihad Airways will operate seasonal services linking Abu Dhabi with Zanzibar. The airline will operate four weekly services during this period, making the Tanzanian island more accessible for international travelers. With Zanzibar now the 30th destination added to Etihad’s network this year, the decision reflects both the carrier’s wider growth and the rising demand for leisure routes over the summer season.

The reinstatement of the Zanzibar route is part of wider enhancements within Etihad’s network. The reinstated route is supported by a number of measures designed to improve travel efficiency:

  • Expanded European schedules now offer multiple daily connections through Abu Dhabi.
  • Flights on this route will use Airbus A320 aircraft configured for medium-haul operations.
  • The schedule is anticipated to attract passengers from European countries as well as the Gulf region.

Visitors to Zanzibar have the opportunity to see several notable sites. Stone Town features intricate narrow streets and traditional buildings that illustrate the island’s long-standing cultural traditions. The spice farms give travelers a view of Zanzibar’s long history in international commerce while filling the air with their characteristic scents. Furthermore, the coral reefs around the island offer prime spots for snorkeling and diving, allowing travelers to experience its diverse underwater life.

Outside the island, Zanzibar acts as a gateway to mainland Tanzania, allowing travelers to experience both coastal relaxation and inland adventures. Safari enthusiasts may travel to the Serengeti, one of the continent’s most celebrated wildlife areas, where the annual migrations of wildlife are watched by visitors worldwide. Some may decide to journey to Mount Kilimanjaro, the continent’s tallest summit, or discover the adjacent national parks, which present a distinct contrast to the coastal environment of Zanzibar.

The return of this flight route demonstrates how seasonal connections can broaden travel opportunities for passengers worldwide. By facilitating smoother travel links and opening opportunities to explore a wide range of destinations, the Zanzibar service strengthens Abu Dhabi’s role as a central transit point. For travelers, the update provides easier trip planning, more seamless connections across the network, and the possibility to enjoy cultural, coastal, and inland experiences all during a single extended journey.
