Passengers passing through Milan Malpensa can now visit a free rock-themed exhibition in Terminal 1, rather than spending their entire wait in shops or cafés. Sara Forte’s Rock Icons opened on 1 October 2026 at La Porta di Milano and runs into January. It combines illuminated artworks inspired by seven famous bands with the story of how rock tours and commercial flying grew together.

The display features The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and U2. Forte has produced seven backlit works using her Quadruslight technique, alongside digital art and video. Each large canvas measures two by three metres, with light passing through pigments to intensify the colours. The setting is an airport walkway, not a gallery inside the departure lounge.

Where to Find the Free Rock Exhibition

  • Location: La Porta di Milano, Terminal 1, on level −1 near the Malpensa Express station, before security.
  • Dates: 1 October 2026–31 January 2027.
  • Entry: Free, including for visitors without flight tickets.
  • Directions: Follow signs for trains and Malpensa Express on level −1 of Terminal 1.
  • Opening hours: SEA has not published separate exhibition times.
  • Terminal 2: Free 24-hour shuttle to Terminal 1; allow time for the return journey.

The gallery is on the public walkway between Terminal 1 and the Malpensa Express station. Travellers from Terminal 2 can use the free 24-hour shuttle, which stops outside arrivals at T2 and opposite the Sheraton hotel at T1. Visiting from T2 means a return journey plus security screening, so it is better suited to passengers with time before check-in than those making tight connections.

If you are departing from Terminal 1, the easiest time to look around is before going through security, once check-in or bag drop is sorted. Arriving passengers can stop before catching their train into Milan. Changing terminals just for the exhibition is less sensible with a short connection: confirm your boarding deadline first, and check SEA’s exhibition page for any changes to access or opening arrangements.
