Slovenia’s Lakes and Caves Get Fresh Summer Travel Focus
Finnair has updated its guide to five reasons to visit Slovenia, highlighting the country as more than a Ljubljana city break. Its latest selection covers Alpine scenery, outdoor activities, food and smaller historic towns, alongside the capital itself. The update comes while Finnair continues its seasonal Helsinki service to Ljubljana, giving summer visitors another direct option for reaching a country where mountains, caves and the Adriatic coast sit relatively close together.

Piran brings an Adriatic stop, while medieval Škofja Loka and historic Ptuj provide smaller-town alternatives for anyone extending the trip beyond the capital.
Several of those places can be added without returning to Ljubljana after every outing. Ljubljana Airport has direct buses to Bled, while Slovenia’s bus and rail network provides onward connections elsewhere. Škocjan Caves need more advance planning during busy periods: the park recommends buying tickets online beforehand, arriving 30 minutes before the booked tour, and allowing around 90 to 120 minutes for the guided cave visit.
The Helsinki service is useful for summer trips, but its seasonal schedule makes dates more important than they would be on a year-round route. Visitors combining Ljubljana with Bled, the caves or the coast should check onward transport before choosing flights, particularly for shorter stays. Finnair’s guide works best as a starting point; attraction tickets, opening hours and local connections are still better checked directly with the relevant Slovenian operators.
