Amtrak Borealis: Expanding Travel Choices from St. Paul to Chicago
In a significant boost to the Midwest’s travel options, Amtrak has announced the launch of the new Borealis train service, offering a second daily round trip between the Twin Cities and Chicago, starting May 21, 2024. This new service, passing through Milwaukee, aims to provide travelers with a more convenient, sustainable alternative to driving, effectively doubling the current rail options.
The Borealis service, backed by state sponsorship from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, marks a crucial step in expanding regional connectivity. The new midday trains will originate from St. Paul’s Ramsey County’s Union Depot, returning from Chicago in the late morning, thus accommodating various schedules and enhancing passenger convenience.
Passengers on the Borealis can look forward to comfortable travel experiences at competitive prices, with coach fares starting at $41 each way. The service caters to a broad demographic, offering discounts for children, students, seniors, veterans, military personnel, and groups, among others.
This expansion is part of a broader initiative supported by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has been instrumental in developing new and improved rail services across the country.
