New Low-Cost Link Brings Romania’s ‘Little Vienna’ Within Reach
Wizz Air has confirmed a new direct service between Birmingham and the Romanian city of Timișoara, starting 21 May 2026. The route will run on Thursdays and Sundays, with entry-level fares advertised from £22.99. Seats are already on sale through the airline’s website and mobile app. The addition lifts Wizz Air’s network at Birmingham to seven destinations, following previously announced routes to Sibiu and Rome.
Timișoara, located in western Romania’s Banat region, is known for grand squares, Austro-Hungarian architecture and its multicultural character. The city gained wider recognition after being named European Capital of Culture in 2023. Wizz Air highlights that the new service offers UK-based customers a more direct way to experience the city’s blend of history, baroque buildings and lively arts scene.

The airport also welcomed the expansion. Birmingham Airport noted that Timișoara joins Wizz Air’s growing list of Romanian connections, alongside Bucharest, Craiova, Sibiu and Suceava. Timișoara’s compact centre features three main squares, waterfront cafés and parks, making the city suitable for short visits. Beyond the city, the wider Banat region offers day trips to Reșița’s industrial heritage sites, Lipova’s vineyards and mountain villages near the Serbian border. With a twice-weekly schedule, short breaks and extended trips both remain practical.
The new Birmingham–Timișoara service provides a direct flight to western Romania without the need for a connecting airport. Direct flights to Timișoara have been rare from the UK, so the service removes the need for intermediate airports and cuts down on logistics. The flight suits weekend city breaks, family visits and anyone curious about a Romanian city that rarely appears on British itineraries.
