Big Thicket National Preserve announces the launch of free ranger-led programs for summer 2024. The programs include stargazing sessions to observe the Moon and other night sky objects through telescopes. This program will take place at the Tyrrell Park Nature Center in Beaumont from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

There will be daytime, sunset, and fishing canoe trips available. Reservations are required and open two weeks before each event. Fishing lessons for children and families are also offered. All equipment is provided, and no fishing license or prior registration is needed. Hour-long nature walks along the Pitcher Plant Trail will also be available to observe carnivorous plants.

Big Thicket National Preserve is located in Southeast Texas, near Beaumont and 75 miles northeast of Houston. The preserve includes nine land units and six water corridors, covering over 113,000 acres. It hosts a variety of plant and animal species from different ecosystems, attracting scientists and tourists worldwide.

Big Thicket is often called a "biological crossroads" due to the convergence of four distinct vegetation types: the moist eastern hardwood forest, southwestern desert, southeastern swamp, and central prairies. These unique ecological conditions create habitats for diverse plant and animal species, drawing the attention of researchers and nature enthusiasts.
