Urgent Update: British Nationals Urged to Leave Lebanon Amid Escalating Situation

Due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Lebanon, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued an urgent travel advisory update. Family members of British Embassy staff in Beirut have been temporarily evacuated, and British nationals are strongly advised to leave Lebanon immediately while commercial routes are still available.

The FCDO continues to recommend against all travel to Lebanon due to the high risk associated with the ongoing conflict between Israel, Lebanese Hezbollah, and other non-state actors. Recent weeks have seen an escalation in mortar and artillery exchanges, airstrikes, and large-scale protests in major cities, including strikes in the southern part of Beirut. Tensions remain high, and a rapid escalation could disrupt evacuation routes and limit the British Embassy's ability to provide assistance.

Recommendations for British Nationals in Lebanon

British nationals in Lebanon are strongly urged to leave the country immediately. The FCDO emphasizes the importance of having a personal emergency plan that does not rely on the UK government, advising readiness to leave the country quickly or shelter in place if necessary.

For those in Lebanon, the following steps are recommended:

  • Register Your Presence: Ensure that the British Embassy has up-to-date contact information by filling out the registration form for each British national in your group.
  • Stay Informed: Subscribe to email notifications to receive the latest updates on travel advice and safety risks.
  • Emergency Contacts: In case of an emergency, call Lebanon's emergency services at 112 or contact the British Embassy at +961 (0)1 960 800.

The situation in Lebanon remains highly unpredictable, and the FCDO's strong recommendation against all travel to the country underscores the seriousness of the existing risks.
