KLM has suspended several Middle East routes and resumed others following an updated assessment of regional security conditions. Since 24 January, the airline has avoided airspace over Iran, Iraq, Israel and several Gulf countries, leading to multiple cancellations. Flights to Tel Aviv remain suspended, while operations to selected destinations are being restored gradually as safety conditions allow.

Based on updated risk analyses, KLM restarted regular services to Riyadh and Dammam on 27 January. The airline expects to resume flights to Dubai on 30 January, subject to ongoing assessments. Tel Aviv is excluded for now, with no restart date confirmed. KLM says route planning and operational decisions continue to be reviewed daily in response to developments on the ground.

Passengers affected by recent cancellations have already been rebooked, according to the airline. Those who prefer not to travel under the current circumstances may request a full refund or alternative compensation. KLM has also confirmed it avoided rebooking passengers on 24 and 25 January, citing limited options as other airlines simultaneously reduced or suspended services across the region.

What routes and access are currently changing

  • Flights to Riyadh and Dammam operating again
  • Dubai services planned to restart from 30 January
  • Tel Aviv flights remain suspended
  • Longer routings in place to avoid restricted airspace

As connections reopen, travellers regain access to key hubs linking Europe with business centres and cultural destinations across the Gulf. Cities such as Riyadh and Dubai offer onward connections to Asia, Africa and Australasia, while also serving as gateways to historic districts, modern museums and major international events that rely on stable long-haul air links.

Despite the partial restart, security conditions remain unstable. Some routes are operating on longer flight paths, while schedules may still change at short notice. Additional suspensions cannot be ruled out if the situation worsens. KLM continues to adjust operations cautiously as regional risks are reassessed on a daily basis.
