Rare wild pig baby born in Miami
A baby babirusa, one of the rarest pigs in the world, was born at the Miami Zoo. The unique animal was born on December 15, 2023, becoming the first piglet of this species to be successfully born in this zoo.
In addition, this baby was the first for a 4-year-old female named Maggie from the St. Louis Zoo and an almost 5-year-old male named Harry from the Audubon Zoo. This was reported by WPLG Local 10.
According to Miami Zoo communications director Ron Magill, the pig's gender is currently unknown, as the baby is isolated with its mother.
The zoo noted that this species is found in Africa, Europe, Asia and the rainforests of Indonesia. These pigs do not look like ordinary pigs due to their appearance. They have an additional pair of tusks located on the pig's nose.
Such an animal lives up to 10 years, but under human care it can live up to 20 years. These animals are not very picky about their diet and can eat fruits, roots, invertebrates, small mammals, and even their own babies.
