Lumo Introduces Recyclable Cartons for Water to Reduce Plastic Bottle Usage
In a revolutionary step towards sustainable development, Lumo's entire electric train fleet will now offer water in special 100% recyclable cartons, aiming to reduce the usage of plastic bottles. Collaborating with entrepreneur Callum Mather from Everdurance, based in North East England, Lumo becomes the leading long-distance provider to make this environmentally friendly transition.
Continuing their efforts in sustainable development, Lumo recently replaced plastic bottles of wine and fruit juice with sustainable alternatives in their online offering, "LumoEats." This includes Flawsome juices made from "wonky" fruits, packaged in environmentally friendly cartons.
Passengers aboard Lumo trains will now have the option to purchase water in recyclable cartons, further solidifying Lumo's position as the top choice for sustainable travel along the East Coast. Additionally, Lumo has joined Transform Scotland, collaborating with the mission to promote accessible, affordable, and sustainable transportation solutions.
Callum Mather, Director of Customer Success at Everdurance, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating: "We are excited to collaborate with Rail Gourmet and Lumo to enhance the environmental friendliness of Lumo journeys. Our goal of replacing plastic bottles with recyclable cartons aligns perfectly with Lumo's sustainability goals."
Choosing rail travel is significantly more sustainable compared to air travel, particularly traveling by Lumo trains, which is 25 times more environmentally friendly due to the fully electric fleet. Lumo's enhanced commitment to sustainable development is underscored by a recent report commissioned by Arup, which demonstrates the significant carbon savings of the operator, equivalent to removing thousands of cars from the roads or powering thousands of homes annually.
