Ryanair Adds Málaga–Madrid Flights After Rail Shutdown
Ryanair is adding a temporary air link between Málaga and Madrid after a fatal train collision near Urda, Toledo, disrupted high-speed services between the capital and Andalucía. Announced on 30 October 2026, the flights offer another way to travel while rail operators work on replacement arrangements. The service could be especially useful for people with family visits, work trips or holidays already planned across the affected corridor.

Ryanair has not listed departure times in its announcement, so check the timetable before arranging connections. Another option starts a day earlier: Volotea will fly Málaga–Madrid five times weekly from 13 November, with basic fares capped at €75 or €99 including a 10kg cabin bag. Iberia and Air Europa already serve the route. Ryanair's cheapest fare includes only a 40 × 30 × 20cm under-seat bag.
From Málaga Airport, C1 trains reach Málaga Centro Alameda in about 12 minutes and Fuengirola in 34 minutes, making coastal stays possible without a car. Málaga’s Alcazaba and Picasso Museum are a walk from the centre. In Madrid, Ryanair uses Terminal 1; Metro Line 8 runs between the airport’s T1–T2–T3 station and Nuevos Ministerios. A single metro ticket costs €1.50–€2 plus a €3 airport supplement.
Ryanair's flights start only on 14 November, while Renfe has said its replacement transport plan cannot begin before 3 November. Passengers with affected rail tickets can request changes or cancellations without fees. Anyone making a journey sooner should compare existing flights and Renfe's latest updates, not assume the new service is already running. Check luggage charges and airport transfers before deciding whether the advertised €49.99 fare offers better value.
