Iberia Adds 14 Flights as Madrid–Andalusia Trains Halt

Iberia is adding 14 flights between Madrid and Andalusia on 29 and 30 October after Wednesday’s deadly train collision near Urda, Toledo, disrupted high-speed rail services. The extra flights serve Málaga and Seville, giving affected passengers another way to travel while the rail corridor remains closed. The airline has also capped fares temporarily, although seats on the additional departures remain subject to availability.

All departure times are local. Iberia has also switched most services on both routes to larger Airbus A321 aircraft. Across 28–30 October, it expects to offer 3,280 additional seats, 47% more than originally planned. The extra capacity is intended to accommodate passengers seeking alternatives to disrupted rail journeys, although availability will depend on demand and individual departures.
Málaga arrivals can take the C1 suburban train to the city centre in around 12 minutes or continue towards the Costa del Sol; Seville Airport has an EA bus to Santa Justa and the centre. Meanwhile, Renfe plans alternative transport between Madrid and Andalusia from Friday. Its existing conventional services to Ciudad Real and Puertollano take roughly 90 minutes longer than usual.
Iberia has capped Madrid–Andalusia fares at €99 one-way in Economy and €149 in Business until 8 November, but these are maximum prices rather than fixed fares. Affected Iberia customers can ask about flexible changes on 900 111 500. Renfe permits free changes and cancellations for disrupted rail bookings. With no reopening date confirmed, compare available flights with Renfe’s alternatives before booking replacement travel.
