UK Issues Travel Warnings for 16 Destinations Amid Middle East Tensions

With tensions in the Middle East still high, the UK Foreign Office updated its travel advice for 16 destinations on October 27. Flights could be cancelled or diverted, and some countries might close their airspace at short notice.
Is Your Destination on the List?
The update covers several popular destinations, including Turkey, Egypt and the UAE. But the advice is not the same for every country. Some have warnings of possible disruption, while others have areas the UK government advises against visiting.
Here is the FCDO advice as of October 29, 2026:
- Travel disruption is possible, but there is no warning against visiting the whole country: UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait.
- Some areas should be avoided: Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Israel, Palestinian Territories.
- The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to much of the country and against all travel to certain areas:Saudi Arabia, Iraq.
- The UK advises against all travel: Iran, Syria, Yemen.
You can check the latest advice for each country on the official FCDO website.
What to Check Before Your Flight
Airspace closures can happen without much notice. Even if you are only changing planes in the Middle East, your journey could be affected.
Check with your airline for any changes to your flight, especially if you have a connection in the region. It is also worth looking at other routes in case your original plans change.
Before leaving, read your travel insurance policy carefully. Your insurance may not cover a trip if you travel against official warnings.
