Birmingham’s New Toronto Flights Skip the Stopover

Next summer, travellers from the Midlands can swap an airport connection for a direct flight to Toronto. Air Transat is adding Birmingham to its Canada network in June 2027, giving holidaymakers a nonstop option for city breaks, family visits and longer trips. The new service also connects with Porter Airlines, opening routes onwards to other major Canadian cities without another transatlantic leg.
When Birmingham’s Toronto Flights Will Run
- Airline: Air Transat.
- Route: Birmingham Airport (BHX)–Toronto Pearson (YYZ), nonstop.
- Launch: 23 June 2027 from Birmingham; 22 June from Toronto.
- Frequency: Wednesdays and Saturdays from Birmingham; Tuesdays and Fridays from Toronto.
- Season: Birmingham departures until 23 October; Toronto departures until 22 October 2027.
- Aircraft: Airbus A321LR.
- Connections: Porter Airlines services via Toronto to other Canadian cities.
- Tickets: Bookable through Air Transat.
The A321LR service includes meals, entertainment and a cabin bag, but the cheapest Eco Budget fare excludes checked luggage; Eco Standard includes one 23kg bag. Adding checked baggage within 24 hours of departure can cost more, so compare the total price before paying. Porter connections can be booked on one ticket, although passengers must clear Canadian immigration and customs at Toronto Pearson and may need to recheck bags.
Toronto makes a practical base for an Ontario break, with the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum and Casa Loma all within reach of the city centre. Niagara Falls is another popular trip beyond the city. Travellers continuing across Canada can connect with Porter Airlines to Montréal, Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton, though connection times and baggage arrangements should be checked before booking.
At Toronto Pearson, the UP Express reaches downtown Union Station in about 28 minutes. British passport holders flying to Canada generally need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), which costs C$7 through the government website. With just two Birmingham departures a week, a missed flight could affect the whole itinerary. Check your entry documents, transfer time and return date before paying for non-refundable plans.
