New Design Hotel Opens in One of Munich’s Most Local Neighbourhoods
The Dean has opened a Munich hotel in the Westend district, giving the Irish brand its second German address after Berlin. The property leans into the neighbourhood rather than the postcard version of the city, pairing design, bars, Japanese dining and wellness with access to the historic centre. It is aimed at visitors who want Munich close, but not directly outside their window.
A New Base in Munich’s Westend
- Hotel: The Dean Munich
- Location: Westend, officially Schwanthalerhöhe
- Address: Landsberger Strasse 68, Munich
- Brand: Irish hospitality group The Dean
- Rooms: 281
- Dining: three bars and Ibasho Japanese restaurant
- Wellness: indoor pool, sauna, steam room, treatment room and gym
- Nearby: Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt and Munich’s historic centre
- Rates: rooms start at €225 per night
The interiors come from London-based designer Tatjana von Stein, who mixes Bavarian Jugendstil curves with references to Munich’s 1980s nightlife. Custom furniture and vintage lighting sit beside a bespoke sound system, so the hotel has more character than a plain business stay. Rooms include standard options, The Dean Suite and The Penthouse Suite, while Ibasho adds pressed sushi, sashimi, robata dishes and saké.
Westend gives guests a more local base while keeping the main sights manageable. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt and the historic centre are a short trip away, while the neighbourhood itself has old breweries, bakeries, art studios, beer gardens, cafés and restaurants. That mix works well for repeat visitors who have already done the main square and want a less polished side of Munich.
The hotel will suit people who want design, food and wellness in the same building, without sleeping in the busiest tourist streets. It is not the cheapest Munich stay, so dates matter, especially around big events. The smarter reason to book is the location: Westend gives easier access to everyday Munich, with the centre still close enough for sightseeing.
