Brussels Airlines has inaugurated a new route connecting Brussels to Nairobi, with the inaugural flight SN 481 taking off this morning. The Belgian national airline will offer up to six weekly flights between the two cities, marking a significant milestone for both tourism and business travel.

The new route is expected to enhance travel options between Kenya and Europe, as well as to the United States, due to Brussels Airlines' extensive network. According to the Kenyan Tourism Board (KTB), this connection will not only boost tourism but also positively impact Kenya's economy.

With Europe being the second largest source market for Kenyan tourism, accounting for 29% of arrivals and recording 572,352 visitors last year, the new route offers substantial benefits. June Chepkemei, CEO of the KTB, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting that connectivity is crucial for increasing tourism arrivals.

Brussels Airlines, renowned for its expertise in African destinations within the Lufthansa Group, now serves 18 destinations in sub-Saharan Africa. Nairobi is the latest addition to its network, and the airline has ambitious plans for further expansion. The new route has already seen significant interest, with 50,000 tickets sold before the inaugural flight, signaling strong demand.

Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines, noted the high interest from Belgian travelers eager to explore Kenya. She emphasized Nairobi's appeal as a vibrant city and gateway to Kenya's attractions. The new route also facilitates travel for Kenyans to Europe and beyond, supporting opportunities for study, business, and tourism.

This new connection between Brussels and Nairobi is set to foster stronger ties, boost tourism, and provide greater travel flexibility for passengers on both ends of the route.
