ScotRail is increasing rail services in Glasgow on 1 and 2 August as the city prepares for large crowds attending Calvin Harris concerts at Barclays Hampden and the final weekend of the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026. Extra trains will operate between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida station before and after both performances. Rail operators expect passenger numbers to rise sharply across the network as thousands of people travel between event venues and the city centre over the same weekend.

Additional measures are being introduced to manage the higher demand. A queuing system will operate at Glasgow Central station, which has fully reopened following disruption earlier this year, while extra staff will be deployed at key locations across the network. Passengers are also being encouraged to purchase tickets before boarding to reduce delays and keep people moving through stations more efficiently during peak periods.

“Saturday and Sunday will be fantastic for Glasgow with Scottish superstar DJ Calvin Harris playing two massive gigs at the national stadium, and the final weekend of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. ScotRail is ready for the weekend, and we will be running additional services between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida for Calvin Harris fans, with extra carriages in place for Games’ spectators."
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director

How Fans Will Reach Barclays Hampden

Most concert traffic will be concentrated around Barclays Hampden, where Calvin Harris is scheduled to perform on both evenings. Mount Florida station, located a short walk from the stadium, will serve as the main rail gateway for those attending the shows. After the concerts, access routes around the station will be managed to direct large crowds safely towards trains and reduce congestion in surrounding streets.

The final weekend of the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 is expected to add another layer of demand across the city’s transport system. Spectators travelling to sporting venues will share trains and stations with concert audiences, creating particularly busy conditions on routes serving central Glasgow. The overlap of two large-scale events is likely to make rail travel one of the most important transport options throughout the weekend.

The additional services reflect the scale of activity expected across Glasgow rather than a routine timetable adjustment. The combination of sold-out concerts and Commonwealth Games events is expected to place rail services at the centre of Glasgow’s transport network throughout the weekend. Advance planning, extra journey time and awareness of station arrangements are likely to make a noticeable difference as passenger volumes increase across the network.
