These Popular Spain Flights Face the Most Cancellations

Flights to Ibiza and Majorca feature heavily in a new ranking of the UK–Europe routes with the highest cancellation rates this summer. AirAdvisor reviewed services operating more than 100 times a month between 1 June and 31 August. London Luton–Ibiza recorded the highest rate, while several Palma routes also appeared near the top, showing that disruption is concentrated on some of the busiest Spanish holiday links.

Majorca appears four times in the top ten, more than any other destination in the ranking. AirAdvisor recorded 36 cancellations among 1,050 flights to the island from Gatwick and Heathrow, equal to 3.44%. A cancelled Palma flight can also affect airport transfers, car hire and hotel check-in, especially when later services are already busy during the summer peak and replacement seats are limited.
The affected routes serve several popular holiday areas. Ibiza offers beaches, coves and nightlife, while Majorca combines Palma with the Serra de Tramuntana and coastal resorts. Lisbon suits a city break with nearby Atlantic beaches, and Málaga is a gateway to the Costa del Sol. Anyone with a ferry, rental car or fixed hotel arrival should check alternative departures before travelling to the airport.
These figures show how the routes performed during the study period; they do not mean a particular flight will be cancelled. Keep airline notifications switched on and leave enough time before any separately booked connection. If a flight is cancelled, customers can choose a refund or rerouting. Compensation of £220, £350 or £520 may also apply when the airline is responsible and the legal conditions are met.
