Zeal Hotels Achieves Milestone with Net Zero Carbon Hotel Construction

In a significant development towards sustainable hospitality, Zeal Hotels celebrates the topping out of its pioneering net zero carbon hotel. The four-star, 142-bedroom hotel, constructed with half the embodied carbon of a standard hotel, is poised to redefine industry standards.

Located within the Exeter Science Park, the hotel is designed to generate 100 percent of its electricity consumption through photovoltaic roof and wall panels. This aligns firmly with the 2050 Paris Agreement and surpasses 2030 targets.

Scheduled for completion in December this year, with an official opening planned for January 2025, the project has garnered attention for its commitment to sustainability without compromising guest experience. As part of Zeal Hotels' ethos, sustainability extends beyond operational aspects to encompass the entire life cycle, including construction and supply chains' emissions. With an exclusive agreement with IHG, the hotel, trading as voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, marks IHG's first foray into net zero carbon hospitality, managed by Valor Hospitality.
