Each medal of the 2024 Olympics will contain 18 grams of iron from a well-known tourist attraction
The athletes who will stand on the podium at the 2024 Olympics in Paris will hold not just a medal, but a real piece of history, a symbol of greatness, and beauty. Each of the 5,084 medals produced for the Olympic and Paralympic Games contains 18 grams of iron from the Eiffel Tower.
The Olympic Games in Paris will run from July 26 to August 11, and the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8. According to the website, the award will be "decorated with a small piece of Paris."
The back of each award will feature the traditional goddess of victory, Nike, the Pantheon, and the Olympic rings, with an image of the Eiffel Tower added to the mix.
On the other side is the date of the competition in Braille, as Paris is committed to inclusivity.
The total weight of the gold medal is 529 grams, the silver medal is 525 grams, and the bronze medal is 455 grams.
The inclusion of metal from the Eiffel Tower is not merely a unique design choice. It serves as an opportunity to commemorate not only the athletes' accomplishments but also the venue of the competition.
"Working alongside Paris 2024 and its Athletes' Commission, the artisans of Chaumet, the LVMH Group's jewelry house, have dedicated their creativity and expertise to enhance the medals. Every aspect of their design reflects a facet of the identity of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024," the statement explained.
