British Airways is set to launch its inaugural flight to Tromsø, Norway, starting December 1, 2024. This marks the airline's northernmost destination globally, and tickets are now available for booking.

Tromsø, known for its prime location to view the aurora borealis, offers winter temperatures between 0°C and -5°C. The city, positioned within the Arctic Circle, boasts ample snowfall ideal for skiing, mountaineering, and whale watching.

As a premier spot for Christmas markets, Tromsø's main square, Stortorget, hosts its most picturesque market and Christmas tree. This makes the city an attractive destination for festive travelers.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed excitement about adding Tromsø to the airline's network. He highlighted Tromsø's growing popularity for winter activities and noted British Airways would be the only premium carrier flying from the UK to this destination. The flight schedule is optimized for three- and four-night trips, making it convenient for holidaymakers.

British Airways Holidays offers packages for travelers, including a three-night stay at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Tromso from £379 per person, with travel in January 2025. This package includes return economy flights from London Heathrow and one 23kg checked bag per person.

Return flights to Tromsø are available from £153, running twice weekly until March 27, 2025. Passengers can bring skiing or snowboarding equipment as part of their checked baggage if it fits within the specified dimensions.

The flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to Tromsø Airport (TOS) will be operated using the A320neo aircraft. The schedule includes departures from LHR at 08:25 on Thursdays and 08:15 on Sundays, arriving in TOS at 13:00 and 12:50, respectively. Return flights will leave TOS at 14:00 on Thursdays and 13:40 on Sundays, arriving back in LHR at 16:45 and 16:25 local time.

This new route to Tromsø offers travelers a unique opportunity to experience the northern lights, enjoy winter sports, and explore festive markets, all while flying with a premium carrier.
