TUI’s Gambia Flight Boost Opens Up Longer Holidays

TUI is adding a second weekly direct flight from Birmingham to Banjul, opening up more 10- and 11-night holidays in The Gambia. The expanded service will give Midlands holidaymakers greater flexibility when planning winter trips to the country's Atlantic beaches and wildlife attractions. Starting in winter 2027/28, the additional flight will also offer an alternative to departures from Gatwick and Manchester.
When Can You Fly Direct to The Gambia?
- Route: Birmingham (BHX) to Banjul (BJL), operated non-stop by TUI Airways.
- Launch date: 2 November 2026, with flights every Monday until 26 April 2027.
- Flight times: Depart Birmingham at 13:40, arriving in Banjul at 20:00. Return flights leave Banjul at 21:00 and reach Birmingham at 03:15 the following morning (local times).
- Extra flights: From winter 2027/28, Thursday services will join the existing Monday flights.
- Holiday options: Stays of 7, 10, 11 or 14 nights.
- Seasonality: Winter only. The exact start date and timetable for Thursday flights have yet to be announced.
Before comparing holiday prices, allow for The Gambia’s airport security charge: $20 on arrival and another $20 on departure. British citizens can visit visa-free for 28 days, provided their passport remains valid throughout the stay. Fees can be paid in pounds, euros or Gambian dalasi, but carrying cash is sensible because card machines can fail. For earlier departures, Manchester and Gatwick also offer direct Banjul flights.
Most beach holidays centre on the Atlantic coast rather than Banjul itself. Kololi has restaurants and nightlife around the Senegambia Strip, while quieter Kotu is popular for birdwatching. Bijilo Forest Park offers short nature walks and monkeys. Those drawn by big-game excursions should note that Fathala Wildlife Reserve lies across the border in Senegal, requiring a separate excursion and relevant border arrangements.
The extra Thursday flight will give Midlands holidaymakers more freedom over how long they stay, but it does nothing for winter 2026/27 bookings. Those needing other dates sooner can compare direct departures from Manchester or Gatwick. Before choosing a package, factor in airport fees and health preparation: UK guidance identifies a high malaria risk in The Gambia and recommends seeking travel advice well ahead of departure.
