Rail services between Acerra and Cancello will be suspended from 11:30 p.m. on Saturday 26 July until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday 27 July due to planned infrastructure works. The intervention is being carried out by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana as part of construction on the high speed rail corridor connecting Naples and Bari. This part is essential for completing the Naples Cancello stretch, expected to be operational by early 2026.

During this time, both regional and long-distance trains that operate on the Naples Caserta line via Cancello will be interrupted or rerouted. Even though the closure is under a day, it happens during the busy summer season and could cause surprises for travelers. Travelers may encounter the following disruptions:

  • Delays affecting regular train schedules
  • Rerouting of some services through alternative lines
  • Limited availability or temporary suspension of specific connections

Passengers are advised to monitor railway communications and make travel adjustments as required.

For now, access to several well-known natural and cultural spots in the area could be limited. Reaching Montevergine Sanctuary near Avellino, which normally involves a regional train followed by a funicular ride, could become less convenient. Visitors heading to the Royal Belvedere of San Leucio, famous for its historic silk district, might need to take longer routes for now. Similarly, the Crater of Astroni, a nature reserve near Naples typically reached with local connections, may be harder to visit on the affected day.

Additional locations that may be impacted include Valle delle Ferriere, a protected hiking area above Amalfi that relies on connections from Naples to nearby towns. Travelers hoping to visit Oasi WWF Bosco di San Silvestro, a forest reserve near Caserta, might face increased travel times or limited access. The impact may extend to Baia di Ieranto, a well-loved destination for nature lovers, which could see fewer visitors during the disruption.

While the interruption is necessary to support long-term upgrades, it underscores the importance of infrastructure planning in tourist-heavy regions. Though the improvements will benefit future journeys, current travelers should be ready for some inconvenience. With Southern Italy continuing to draw travelers, good planning and clear updates will help keep trips running smoothly.
