Varna Adds Direct Rome Flights to Its 2026 Schedule

Wizz Air is adding a new direct connection between Varna Airport and Rome Fiumicino to its 2026 schedule, continuing the expansion of international services from the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The route strengthens links between Bulgaria and Italy and becomes another addition to Varna’s growing list of year-round destinations. Tickets for the service are already available, allowing early planning for travel later in the season.

Italy continues to be one of the most frequently chosen destinations for Bulgarian passengers, particularly for short breaks and business travel. Rome remains one of the key destinations for travel between Bulgaria and Italy. Flights on the Varna–Rome route will start on 22 September 2026 and operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This will be Wizz Air’s second scheduled Italian route from Varna, following the launch of Bergamo flights in September 2025.

The addition follows ongoing work by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management to expand Varna’s route map through cooperation with airline partners. Airport officials note that recent years have seen steady growth in international services, with Varna increasingly serving as a departure point not only for seasonal leisure travel but also for year-round routes. Wizz Air has included the Rome service within its broader development plans in Bulgaria.

With the new route in place, Rome becomes more straightforward to reach for passengers travelling via Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. The city remains a popular choice for short cultural trips, while Rome Fiumicino also offers connections within Italy and to other international destinations. At the same time, the service creates additional inbound access to Varna for Italian visitors and business travellers.

The September launch date places the route outside the busiest summer period, which may suit travellers looking for quieter travel windows. Regular weekly flights and a growing list of destinations point to a gradual shift in Varna’s role within the region. The Rome service reflects how regional airports are adding direct links to major European cities as part of longer-term network planning.
