According to data published by CaixaBank Research, Spain has fully recovered from the effects of the pandemic and has already become the leading tourist destination in the world, surpassing France. This is confirmed by the data from the National Statistical Institute of Spain, INE. In 2023, Spanish hotels recorded an average ADR (revenue per occupied room) of 108.90 euros, which is about 20 percent higher than the 89 euros recorded in 2019, a record year for tourism in the country.

The number of overnight stays for the year reached 347 million, which is 8.5 percent more than in 2022 and 1.2 percent more than in 2019. The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists increased by 1.3%, and by foreign tourists by 12.6%. Such data was published by surinenglish.com.

CaixaBank's research predicts that domestic demand will increase by 0.3% in 2024, but a significant portion of the growth will come from international arrivals, which are expected to rise by 3.8%. According to the study, tourism will account for 12.7 percent of GDP in 2024, up one-tenth from 2023 and three-tenths from 2019.

CaixaBank's report also shows that Spanish tourists are returning to travel abroad at a slower rate than international tourists are coming to Spain.
