Uber launches electric rickshaw service in Ayodhya and plans further expansion

Ride-hailing service provider Uber has launched electric rickshaw services in Ayodhya under its popular Uber Auto category. The launch was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.

After the launch of the e-car service, Uber also plans to launch UberGo in Ayodhya along with Uber Intercity. By launching these ride-hailing services in the city, the joint mobility aggregator claims to offer greater long-distance travel options in Ayodhya. Furthermore, with the long-distance connection, the company emphasizes that it is offering a mobility service between Ayodhya and other popular destinations in Uttar Pradesh. The expansion of services in Ayodhya is in line with Uber's growth plans in India and builds on the company's India-Barat ride-hailing strategy to expand its footprint and product offering in more and more regional markets, the company said.

Speaking about the launch of Uber in Ayodhya, Prabhjit Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia, said that with this expansion, the company is not only providing enhanced mobility options for tourists and pilgrims, but also opening up income opportunities for local residents.

Earlier in 2023, Uber India introduced its electric ride-hailing service Uber Green. Over the next three years, the company plans to deploy about 25,000 electric vehicles with the help of its fleet partners, including Lithium Urban Technologies, Moove, and Everest Fleet. Currently, the ride-hailing company offers its services in 125 cities in India, including both tier-one and tier-two cities.
