The launch date of the new "Vilnius-Riga" train has become known
The first train from Vilnius to Riga is scheduled to depart on December 27, according to LTG Link, the passenger department of the Lithuanian state railway company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, LTG).
However, the date of the first trip may still be adjusted. "We hope that in the future, the route will be supplemented with a connection to Tallinn, and the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line will make traveling to our neighbors even faster and more comfortable," said MP Loreta Maskalioviene. This is stated in the message of the Minister of Transport and Communications.
The train will run between Vilnius and Riga via Kaunas, Siauliai, Joniskis, and Jelgava, providing competition with cars.
According to Gediminas Sekus, the interim CEO of LTG Link, passengers will be able to travel this route without changing trains, and the train will be adapted to the individual needs of the travelers.
The company is currently conducting preparatory work for the new route and has already signed an agreement with the Latvian infrastructure manager to use the country's railways.
In addition, LTG Link has applied to Latvian and European authorities for the necessary permits for international routes to operate in Latvia and is working on other issues related to the organization of the new route to meet Latvian requirements.
